Durability
Each gauge is constructed of iron for maximum survivability in extreme environmental conditions. A unique porcelain enamel coats each staff gauge, protecting the instruments from rust and discoloration. Under normal conditions, the gauge will last for many years. Questions & Answers
How wide is the gauge?
The USGS Style A Staff Gauges are 4 inches wide.
How is the staff gauge mounted/installed?
The USGS Style A staff gauge comes with 1/4” diameter pre-drilled holes for mounting. It is recommended that stainless steel (316) screws are used to mount to a fixture such as a dock, bridge piling, or other sturdy structure.
Are the staff gauges NSF61 compliant?
The Cherokee staff gauges are constructed of steel with a porcelain coating. However, there is not a specific designation that these are rated for use in drinking water. More information on materials and tests that the product has undergone can be found here: https://www.cherokeeporcelain.com/infospecs/
Why is the 0.04" marker missing between each staff gauge when installed?
The 0.04 unit is “missing” between gauges because the line between the two gauges exactly aligns with where the 0.04 marker would be. When installed directly above each other with no overlap, there will not be missing any units. For example, the distance between each ft marker is still a foot.
